Rocking Through September

On September 9th, Apple hosted an event titled “Let’s Rock” where it released new iPods, a new version of iTunes, and also an iPhone update.  Not a bad haul for the Mac user crowd.

Though it is mostly simply an incremental update, iTunes version 8 comes touting a new “Genius” feature.  This feature will generate a playlist based on what goes with a song that you select.  In my testing, it has come up with some pretty ingenious pairings, and I definitely prefer it to the general shuffle feature.  Also with iTunes 8, Apple has updated the long standing iTunes visualizer.  The new visualizer is quite incredible, and is something that really should be seen.

On the iPod front, the iPod Nano has been redesigned.  Apple has returned the Nano to the long and skinny style, rather than the short and fat design that the last revision brought.  It sports a widescreen display, and the same nifty screen rotation tricks that it’s bigger brothers have.  The new iPod touch has also seen a slight redesign and a price reduction on the low end.

Finally, the iPhone 2.1 update brings in some much needed fixes for a variety of iPhone woes.  The two most significant of these is fixes for battery life issues, and dropped call problems experienced on many iPhones.  If you are an iPhone user and haven’t grabbed this update yet, it is highly recommended.

Tell us what you think.
