MacBook and MacBook Pro Get a Boost of Speed March 17, 2008

For those of you somewhat disappointed with the introduction of the MacBook Air, Apple has refreshed their laptop lines with new MacBooks and MacBook Pros.

While the form factor has not changed, there have been significant tweaks to what lies under the hood. The processor for both the 15 and 17-inch laptops have been updated to your choice of either 2.5 or 2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo; while the MacBook has been bumped up to 2.4 GHz. While the new processor speed may not seem significant you should be aware that since they’re from the new Penryn line, they’re more energy efficient, potentially prolonging battery life, and, assuming the software is written correctly, increase the speed of some tasks.

In addition to the new processor, the MacBook Pros now ship with a standard 2GB of RAM, an 8x Superdrive, a multi-touch trackpad (which recognizes pinch, rotate, and swipe gestures) and hard drives ranging in size from 200GB to 300GB. The video cards have also been upgraded to a standard 256MB, for the 2.4 GHz model, and an amazing 512MB RAM for the other two configurations.

The specifics on the upgrades to the MacBook are a bit more modest. The 2.4 GHz model ships with 2GB RAM and the drive capacity has increased to anywhere from 120GB to 250GB

So if you’re in the market for a new laptop and the Air left you unimpressed, we think you’ll be somewhat happy with the new line of MacBooks and Pros. As usual, if you have any questions or are interested in purchasing one, please give us a call; we’d be more than happy to help you out
